    A romantic weekend in the Wachau: Danube walks, wine tasting, Penthouse Spa and a sunset over the vineyards. Here is how to plan two days for two.

    The Wachau is one of Austria's most romantic regions – compact, full of viewpoints, with short distances between vineyards, the Danube and medieval villages. Perfect for a long weekend for two.

    Day 1 – arrive and unwind

    Arrive late morning, check in, lunch on the terrace with Danube views. In the afternoon a walk through Dürnstein up to the castle ruins – with the most beautiful view over the Danube valley. In the evening a four-course menu at Restaurant Himmelsstiege, then a glass of wine in the garden.

    Day 2 – wine, water, wellness

    After a leisurely breakfast: a DDSG boat trip through the Wachau (pier directly in Dürnstein) or a short hike on the Welterbesteig. In the afternoon a guided wine tasting at the in-house Weingut Pfeffel – Riesling and Grüner Veltliner from our own vineyards. In the late afternoon into the Penthouse Spa: outdoor pool, sauna, relaxation room with Danube views.

    Day 3 – a quiet farewell

    A long breakfast, a final walk on the Danube Cycle Path, check-out. If you like, drive back via Krems and stroll through town.

    March/April for the apricot blossom, May–June for long evenings, September/October for the harvest with golden light. In winter the Wachau is quieter but just as romantic – Advent markets in Dürnstein and silence on the vineyards.

    How long should we stay? Two nights is the minimum, three is ideal.

    Can we add a wine tasting spontaneously? Yes, usually with one day's notice at reception.
