Wine and wellness – the perfect combination in the Wachau
Published on
Wine and wellness in one place: tasting at our on-site winery, Penthouse Spa above the rooftops of Dürnstein. Here is how the combination works at Pfeffel.
Wine and wellness are natural partners in the Wachau – but most hotels offer either one or the other. At Pfeffel you find both under one roof.
Why does the combination work so well?
A day in the vineyards, a tasting in the afternoon, sauna and outdoor pool after that – this is more than the sum of its parts. The spa helps the body settle after a day of wine and good food. The tasting becomes more intense when you are relaxed instead of tired from the drive.
Our recommendation – a typical wine and wellness day
10:00 Long breakfast with regional produce 11:30 Walk through the vineyards above Dürnstein 13:00 Light lunch, no wine 15:00 Guided tasting at Weingut Pfeffel – Riesling, Grüner Veltliner, Smaragd sites 16:30 Penthouse Spa: sauna, outdoor pool, relaxation room with Danube views 19:30 Four-course menu at Restaurant Himmelsstiege, each dish with a matching wine
Important: wine and sauna – what to know
Wine and sauna back-to-back is not a good idea. Our recommendation: sauna before the tasting, or at least an hour after. Drink water between sauna rounds, not wine. Done that way, you get more from both.
Packages for wine and wellness
We bundle the combination into several packages – two or three nights, always including a tasting at the in-house winery, spa access and at least one four-course menu. Details and prices on the offers page.
What sets Pfeffel apart from other wellness hotels
We are one of the few 4-star hotels in the Wachau with an active on-site winery. You taste where the wine is made, with the people who make it. That turns a tasting into a meeting.
